He found the unexpected cancer of my energizer bunny mother (51 years old) who passed 2 months after finding out she even had cancer, that HE SAW AND found, when she was simply going in for her late, yet routine colonoscopy for her age, and concerned about having a possible gallstone episode like she did a year before, So she’d be healthy to care for her first grandchild who was soon to come. And to discussed having the gallbladder removed so it wouldn’t be a burden or hindrance again in the future, now that she was about to be a grandmother.
Colon cancer is what was found, that had metastasized from her colon to both lobes of her liver, and onto the bottom tips of her lungs. Cancer that had been missed a year prior because of gallstones. (Though they’d done the same preliminary tests Dr M performed) at another facility.
He has since been the physician for myself, father, sister, aunt, cousins, paternal grandparents (grandfather of which is a colon cancer survivor who switched physicians to have him) because of the care, time, diligence, and even visible sorrow and mourning he exhibited and we experienced with him, while my mother was in his care and his patient, and ultimately her quick passing.
She passed 2 months after her diagnosis, and 2 weeks after meeting and loving on her first grandchild.
He’s not always remembered our faces when we came in, but as soon as he came into any of our rooms, or looked at our charts, he questioned us about, and if, we were related to my mother, whose case and name he has never forgotten.
His heart and dedication to his profession are so apparent, even in the most routine and mundane of check ups or appointments. And it filters over into the team of professionals and care givers he has on his team and in his facilities.
He never had to remember my mother or even her name, but because he remembered this one patient, and seeing from the outside the time and care he gave her, he gained her whole family as devout patients.
He may not have been able to change the outcome of my mothers late diagnosis, but he is a change maker, different breed of doctor, we all could only hope and pray we encounter and be privileged to be in the care of.

Dr. Sanchez is an amazing doctor who literally saved my life. I hate he is leaving GI Associates and I will be following him to his new clinic because I don’t want to loose him as my doctor.
